“Fayetteville: A River Town of Strategic Importance”
October 23 to October 25, 2008
The Council organizes a conference in a different region of the state each year. This year's conference concentrates on the maritime history and culture of the area of the upper Cape Fear River, and is centered on Fayetteville.
The conference starts with a reception at the Museum of the Cape Fear on Thursday afternoon and evening. On Friday we meet in First Baptist Church for two presentation sessions, followed by an afternoon tour of the historic downtown. We finish the day with a reception and dinner . On Saturday morning, we offer further presentations at Fayetteville Technical College, followed by tours of Cape Fear Botanical Gardens, concluding at 1:00 pm
Optional Post-Conference Tour: Board a pontoon boat for a 2-hour tour of the historic Cape Fear River.
There is limited accommodation and preregistration is required.
Keynote presentation: Larry Early, "Looking for Longleaf."
Registration
Registration for the conference costs $95.00. A special rate of $50.00 is available for full-time students and school teachers (supporting documentation required). Registration for each day's presentations only costs $50.00 and attendance at the Friday evening reception and dinner only costs $40.00. The post-conference river tour costs $25 per person.
